- ||Wells is the owner of 80 acres on the 1876 Ottawa County historical atlas. The land is situated on Section 13 and appears to be the SE1/4 of the SW1/4 and the SW1/4 of the SE1/4 of the section. The parcel is very near that of his brothers' Hugh and Bennett Harrison on Section 18. It is located at the south west corner of present day Baldwin Street and 144th Avenue, just west of US 31. It is about 3 miles directly east of the power plant at Port Sheldon. In the atlas, there doesn't appear to be any dwellings on the parcel. There are dwellings on the parcels of his brothers. Bennett Harrison appeared first in the township having been included in the 1870 census there. Their father, Elias Harrison probably moved with some of his family to the township in the 1860's from Branch County. Elias died there in 1868.

According to family tradition, Wells finally succumed to the wound he received in the Civil War.
There is no record of where Wells is buried. Interestingly, there is a story of an "Unknown Soldier in an Unmarked Grave" in rural West Olive Cemetery. The cemetery records contain no mention, but local legend has it that the mysterious soldier fought for the Union in the Civil War. For years only a slender, 3-foot high woodedn post marked what was believed to be the unknown soldiers grave.

Today, there are no headstones in Section "D" of the cemetery, which used to be called Potter's Field. And of the notations made in the record book, only one lot does not have a name recorded. It has a date 1 Sep 1881.
