    • Harvard Graduate. Ordained in Barrington on 11/12/1728.

      The First Congregational Church of Barrington commences with the history of the town. John Wilson was the first minister from 1710-1713. In the year 1718, April 21, Rev. Samuel Torrey was invited to become their minister and continued such until his dismissal in 1726. September 9, 1728, Rev. Peleg Heath became pastor. During his pastorate the church edifice was removed from the old site, near the present residence of George Gladding, Esq. Rev. Solomon Townsend succeeded Mr. Heath in 1743 and continued pastor until his death, 25 Dec 1796.
