Notes |
- When Governor Hunton was a young man, he studied law in the office of Samuel P. Glidden, the first lawyer who established himself in the beautiful town of Readfield. In due course of time Jonathan succeeded to the business of his uncle, and upon his death married his widow. At the time of his nomination he was a member of the Executive Council. He was elected Governor of Maine in 1830 by the National Republican party, and came into office during the political excitement growing out of the previous campaign when Jackson was elected over Adams.
