- Charles immigrated from Sweden because of his objection to joining the military in Sweden. All men having attained the age of 21 were so required. Charles Allen and Jenny Ahlberg met in Grand Rapids both having attended the Swedish Covenant Church. Charley and Jennie were married by Klaes August Nygren. Witnesses to their marriage were Mr. Andrew Ahlberg and Miss Annie Anderson. Charles' obituary lists survivors as: his widow; two sons, Paul and Roy both of Grand Rapids; three daughters, Mrs. Marian Long, Mrs. R.P. Albright both of GR & Mrs. Sanford Carlson of Chicago, IL.; six grandchildren.
