- Arvid and Daisey lived in Chicago during their entire married life until 1969 when they moved to Oak Lawn, a suburb of Chicago. Arvid was a real estate salesman for almost all of his working career. When he was very young, in his early 20's and 30's, he was a grocery salesman to restaurants and clubs. Then he started in the real estate business and had his own office until the Great Depression in the USA (1929-1935). During the Depression years he sold many different items, actually whatever people would buy, in order to make a living. Then in about 1936 he became an automobile salesman until the real estate business improved and then he went back into real estate as a broker and stayed in that profession until he was 87 years old! He loved his work and never would retire. He always said he would retire when he died, and he almost did. He was 89 years and six months when he passed away.
