- Last Will and Testament of Timothy Chapman Deceased. 2098
Be it Remembered, That heretofore, to wit: on the 12th day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty nine, Timothy Chapman, sole Executor named in the Last Will and Testament of Timothy Chapman late of the town of Lenox in the County of Madison and made application to have the said Last Will and Testament, which relates to both Real and Personal Estate, proved and on such application the said Surrogate did ascertain by satisfactory evidence who were the ____ heirs at law and next of kin of the said testator, and their respective residences, viz. Charlotte Chapman the widow, and Mehitable Bushnell, Electa A. Ely, Susan M. Evans, Harriet L. Hart and Timothy Chapman heirs & next of kin of said deceased and said Surrogate did thereupon issue a Citation in the form of law directed to the widow heirs at law and next of kin above named by their respective names, stating their respective places of residence, requiring them to appear before said Surrogate at his office in the village of Morrisville in said County on the 4th day of February A. D. 1860, to attend the Probate of said Will.
And afterward, to wit: on the 4th day of February A.D. 1860, satisfactory evidence by affidavit was produced to said Surrogate, of the due service of said Citation in the mode prescribed by law, and on that day, no one appearing to oppose the Probate of such Will such proceedings were thereupon had in said Court afterwards, that the said Surrogate took the proofs of said Will hereinafter set forth, upon this 4th day of February A. D. 1860 and the 18th day of February aforesaid to ________ and he thereupon adjudged the said Will to be a valid Will of Real and Personal Estate, and the proofs thereof to be sufficient, which said Last Will and Testament, and proofs are as follows, that is to say:
Know all men by these present that I Timothy Chapman of the town of Lenox in the County of Madison and State of New York, farmer, Considering the uncertainty of this life and being of sound mind & memory do make declare and publish this my last will and testament.
First I give & bequest to my beloved wife Charlott all my household goods to be at her disposal during her lifetime and what is not disposed of during her lifetime to go to my son Timothy.
Second I give & bequeath to my daughter Electa Ann Ely one hundred dollars to be paid her by my son Timothy. I give & bequeath to my daughter Mehitable Bushnell one hundred dollars to be paid by my son Timothy. I give and bequeath to my daughter Susan Mariah Evans on hundred dollars. And I give & bequeath to my grand daughter Harriet Lavinia Ely one hundred dollars and to my grand daughter Charlott Manerva Ely the sum of fifty dollars.
I give & bequeath to my son Timothy all the rest and residue of my personal & real estate after paying my debts and the aforesaid legacies and providing a comfortable support for my wifes sister Abigail Jones during her life.
And lastly I give & bequeath to my son Timothy after paying & providing as aforesaid and performing all things as above provided all the rest and residue of my my(sic) real estate and personal property that I may die seized of or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease to have and to hold the same to him his heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever.
I do nominate constitute and appoint my son Timothy Chapman Jun. to be the Executor of this my last will and testament.
In Witness whereof I have to this my last will and testament contained on one sheet of paper to which I have subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 21st day of February 1851

- Timothy CHAPMAN, son of Deacon Caleb CHAPMAN, resided in West-Brook, CT, as a farmer, until about 1821 when he removed with his family to Sullivan, Oneida Co, New York, where he now (1854) resides; and exemplary member of the church of Christ. !The CHAPMAN Family (1854); Rev. F.W. Chapman
Timothy & Charlotte CHAPMAN are found in Lenox, Madison Co, NY at the 1850 census. The date of the census is 15 Aug 1850. Timothy is age 70. Charlotte is age 61. Both indicate they were born in Connecticut. Timothy lists his occupation as farmer and gives a value of his real estate as $3,000. Elisha & Electa ELEY, son-in-law and daughter were enumerated right next door with their family. The CHAPMAN family is also in Lenox at the time of the 1840 Federal and the 1855 New York State census'. Sullivan is in present day Madison Co, NY and Lenox undoubtedly a smaller community nearby.
Timothy owned a farm of six acres in Lenox in 1836.

"Lakeport" - small post village 5 miles east of Bridgeport, Madison County, NY
Two miles east of Lakeport on the shore road is located the First Congregational Church of Oneida Lake embracing in its territory the northwest portion of the town of Lenox and the northeast part of Sullivan.
In February 1846, at the request of persons living in the neighborhood, Rev. Josiah Jerome Ward, a member of the Onandaga presbytery came into this field and in hope of gathering into one fold the disciples of Christ engaged in labor one year. A religious society was formed August 24, 1846 with the following names constituent members:
