Notes |
- JEREMIAH SCOTT died without issue. He gave his estate to his brother Nathaniel. They being the youngest sons, their father had given them by his will "all his real estate," being the original settlement of the said Richard Scott.
Nathaniel had but one heir, whose name is Jeremiah, and he now (1817) owns and lives on the same. It is a rare thing to find one of the first settlements in the State continue, by heirship in the original name to this day. Some years ago Col. Nightingale told me that there was but one single lot in the town of Providence, (which contains six acres), but had been transferred from the original owner's name; and that lot was owned by the descendants of Roger Williams, and has descended to the present owner by heirship.
