- In June 1659, when Patience was eleven years old, she walked all the way to Boston, professing herself to be a Quaker, to bear witness, as she said, against the persecuting spirit of the Bay Colony. She was committed to jail. "The Court . . . judge meet so far to slight her according to her capacity, and so discharge her, Capt.
