- According to the 1876 Kent County Atlas, John Williams' farm is about 57 acres positioned on the W 3/4 of the S 1/2 of the NW 1/4, Sec. 5 in Gaines Township. The family is found at this location on census and atlases into the 1900s.
There is some tie to Jamestown Township in Ottawa County. Several of the children married into families (FRIZ, GREGORY) from there or were "of Jamestown" in some records. There is a 1/4 section (8) that is owned by J. Williams in 1876. But it is clear that the Gaines Township property belongs to this family.

- John Williams is last listed in the Kent County Directory in the 1882/84 edition. Also listed in the immediate vicinity 1882 through 1885 on Section 5 are Tyler Williams, Hiram Williams and William Williams. The Post Office is Fisher Station. Williams Williams is also listed on section 31 of Paris Township.
The 1894 Kent County Atlas shows John Williams as owning the family farm on section 5 of Gaines Township. By 1900 Lida is listed as a widow (census). By the 1907 atlas, the name of J. Williams is replaced by Mrs. J. Williams.
There is an atlas of Kent County (1919) at the Grand Rapids Public Library which shows the family farm as being split in 5 equal (12 acre) parts. Identification on the atlas are only initials. Below is the listing of initials and my interpretations.
H. W. - Hiram Williams - (brother)
A. J. F. - Andrew Jackson Friz (son-in-law)
M. E. F. - Mary Elizabeth Friz (daughter)
E. H. (or F. A.) - unknown
T. W. - Tyler Williams (son)

Notes |
- John A. Williams was an early settler in Jamestown Township. He "settled the SW 1/4, Sec. 8 and the S 1/2 of the SW 1/4, Sec 17. He still owned it in 1870."
John and Hiram (brother) were grantees in a deed (date between 1866-69) granted by Adam Williams. This 23 acres was the S 1/2 of the NW 1/4, Section 5, Gaines Township. There was also land in Gaines township on SE 1/4 of the NE 1/4, Section 30 that was owned by Adam, his wife, John and his brother, Hiram, & granted to James Brown.
It's apparent that John had moved to Gaines Township before the 1870 census. John's son Lorenzo had a sizeable estate in Jamestown in the 1870 census and may have been on the farm that still appears in the 1876 atlas as owned by John Williams.
Calvin, George B. and Robert Williams also bought land on Sec. 9, Gaines Township in the 1860s. Perhaps they are relatives.
