Notes |
- Lawrence Turner worked at the ironworks in Lynn until about 1653. As his occupation was given as "mason" in a Rhode Island deed of 1663, he may have been a brickworker employed in the construction and maintenance of the blast furnace. His wife Sarah was involved in several altercations with others living at Hammersmith, the village at the ironworks. In connection with these disputes Lawrence Turner entered a suit against Henry Leonard and his wife Mary for defamation, and Henry Leonard countered with a suit against Lawrence and his wife for battery. Lawrence was living in Rhode Island by August 1653. There is no evidence that his wife Sarah went there with him, or that he had another wife. But his life there must have been more tranquil as there are no court records to mar his reputation.
