  Married: 26 May 1844- m in this village on the 18th inst by B.B. Payne, Esq, Mr. Jeremiah Nodine to Miss Arville McDowell. !From Marriages and Deaths Elmira Republican, Elmira Gazette, Elmira NY Abstracted by Isabell Rydel and retyped by Diane Bender Divorced: Burton, July 20th 1856. "Mr. Nodine had applied for a bill of divorce from her (Arvilla)--he did not get it here. She had more friends than he had. Mr. Nodine went to Waterford, IN, some six miles from Michigan City to making bricks where he had been 2 or 3 years before. Had the children with him--last spring Mrs. Nodine sold most of her things and went to see her children." In the 1860 census, she is in Niles, MI, age 26 and a "widow." Perhaps it was easier to explain than "divorce."
